Padma

Padma is an expansive biofeedback installation, featuring 10 lotuses ranging from 3 to 4.5 meters in height, each equipped with pulse sensors at the base. Participants engage by placing their hands on these sensors, activating the stems and flowers to beat in sync with their heart rates. LED lights wrap around the stems and illuminate the flowers, responding dynamically to participants’ interactions. With dual pulse sensors on each lotus, the installation accommodates all participants simultaneously, allowing their hearts to merge visually in pulsating lights. Five out of the original ten lotuses are part of the permanent collection of the Faizal & Shabana Foundation, currently located at the Tulah wellness centre in Chelambara, Kerala.

All traditional cultures have had their spaces of ‘communion’ – of coming together and sharing. These sacred spaces were intensely personal, yet became a focal point to gather and connect. With Padma, the artist utilises technology to make our inner intangible worlds more tangible. In order to visually represent our inner state, the artist aim to create group experiences of magical synchronicity that make us more aware as individuals and more connected as a community
